- 탐방로를 따라 빛으로 물든 왕궁터를 감상 / 11.4.~6. -

  문화재청 국립경주문화재연구소(소장 김성배)는 '빛의 궁궐, 월성'이라는 주제로 오는 4일부터 6일까지 3일간, ‘경주 월성(사적)’ 유적의 내부를 오후 6시부터 9시까지 3시간 동안 탐방할 수 있는 야간 개방 행사를 개최한다.
  * 개방구간: 경주 월성 내부 일대 / 경상북도 경주시 인왕동 501-5(동쪽 출입구), 교동 32-2(서쪽 출입구)

  2016년 10월을 시작으로 올해 다섯 번째를 맞이한 ‘빛의 궁궐, 월성’은 신라 천년의 왕궁터인 경주 월성 발굴조사 현장에서 다양한 프로그램을 직접 체험하고, 발굴조사원의 설명을 통해 세계문화유산인 월성을 더욱 친근하게 알아가는 문화유산 활용의 장이다. 지난해에는 코로나19로 열리지 못했으나, 올해 11월 일상회복으로의 전환을 맞아 다시 선보이게 되었다. 

  제5회 ‘빛의 궁궐, 월성’은 대면 접촉이 많은 참여 행사 대신, 누구나 편하게 쉬어갈 수 있는 산책형 야간 탐방 행사로 마련하였다. 들어오는 길을 월성 동쪽(신라왕궁영상관 옆)과 월성 서쪽에 각각 마련하였는데 월성 동쪽은 낮과 밤의 풍경이 아름다운 ‘동궁과 월지’와 가까운 곳이며, 월성 서쪽은 야경 명소인 ‘월정교’에서 ‘첨성대’로 들어오는 길목에 있다.

  이번 행사 기간에는 오후 6시부터 30분간 중앙무대에서 경상북도 도립교향악단의 공연도 펼쳐진다. 또한, 곳곳에 사진촬영하기 좋은 명소가 있고 탐방로를 따라 월성에서 발굴한 문화재를 활용한 미디어아트를 감상할 수 있다. 고즈넉한 가을을 맞이하여 월성의 밤을 가족과 함께 즐기기에 더 없이 좋은 시간이 될 것이다.

  문화재청 국립경주문화재연구소는 이번 행사로 코로나19로 지친 국민이 신라의 가을 정취를 느끼길 바라며, 앞으로 우리 문화유산을 생생하게 접할 수 있는 다양하고 유익한 참여 프로그램을 꾸준히 개발하여 제공할 계획이다.

- Gyeongju Wolseong opens at night, the Gyeongju National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage -

The Gyeongju National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage (the GNRICH, Director Kim Seong-bae) under the Cultural Heritage Administration will hold a three-day night tour of ‘the historical site of Wolseong in Gyeongju’ to the public, under the theme of ‘Palace of Light, Wolseong,’ for three hours between 6 pm and 9 pm from fourth (Thu) to sixth (Sat) of November 2021.
* Opening section: the whole area of Wolseong/ 501-5, Inwang-dong, Gyeongju-si (the east entrance)/ 32-2, Gyo-dong, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea (the west entrance)

‘Palace of Light, Wolseong,’ the opening night tour of Wolseong, now is in its fifth year this year, started in October 2016. The GNRICH has prepared various programs for citizens to explore the excavation site of Wolseong, the historical site of the royal palace in Silla and enjoy and feel close to the cultural heritage with a guide of excavation researchers. Last year, unfortunately, this night tour could not be held due to the unexpected COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the government has switched to the ‘Living with COVID’ strategy to recover our daily lives since November 2021. The GNRICH, therefore, re-opens the ‘Palace of Light, Wolseong’ to explore the excavation site that had not been enjoyed before.

The 5th ‘Palace of Light, Wolseong’ is designed as Night Walking Tour that anyone can relax comfortably instead of a participation program with face-to-face contact. There are two entrances, the east of Wolseong close to Donggung and Wolji, where the scenery of day and night is beautiful, and the west of Wolseong on the way from Woljeonggyo Bridge to Cheomseongdae. For participating in the event, it is needed to register in front of Seokbinggo (the east entrance) or near the west entrance. 

During the event, a performance by the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Symphony Orchestra will be held on the central stage for 30 minutes at 6 pm. By following the lights lit on the floor of the Wolseong trail, various media art contents using cultural heritage discovered in Wolseong can be enjoyed and miscellaneous lights prepared in the small forest as a photo zone to capture special moments of the autumn nights. Now, the moonlight and electronic lights on autumn nights illuminate the royal palace site, which had always been dark. It would be great to go out with family and friends on an autumn night. 
 

The GNRICH has provided various programs to share the achievements of various researches and excavations at Wolseong with the public in tune with the time of sharing cultures in the local and daily life. This event is also intended to provide places for the people who are tired of COVID-19. Hence, people could feel the beautiful autumn atmosphere and Silla culture in Wolseong. In the future, the GNRICH plans to continuously develop and provide various programs so that people could explore cultural heritage more closely and vividly at the excavation site.
