‘2만 여개 레고로 조립한 종묘제례’ 상설 전시(5.17.~)… 망묘루 내부도 특별개방(5.17.~6.30.)

  문화재청 궁능유적본부는 국가유산청 출범을 기념하여 한국문화재재단(이사장 최영창)과 함께 오는 17일 종묘의 향대청 전시관을 개편하여 재개관하고 향대청 옆 망묘루 내부도 특별 개방한다.

종묘 향대청은 종묘제례 때 사용하는 향과 축문, 폐백을 모셔 보관하고, 제례를 진행하는 제관들이 대기하던 곳이다. 망묘루는 조선시대 종묘 관리를 담당했던 관서인 종묘서(宗廟署)가 있던 건물로, 제례를 지내러 온 국왕이 이곳에서 선왕을 추모하며 남긴 글을 현판으로 만들어 걸어두기도 했던 장소이다.

종묘 향대청 전시관은 왕실 유교 사당 종묘와 종묘제례 및 종묘제례악의 의미와 가치에 쉽게 다가갈 수 있도록 설명하는 ‘드오’실과 ‘지오’실 두 개의 전시관으로 구성된다.
* 드오 / 지오: 종묘제례악에서 음악의 시작과 끝을 신호하는 말. 집사악사가 ‘드오’ 라고 외치고 휘(麾)라는 깃발을 들어올리면 음악을 시작하고, ‘지오’라 외치고 깃발을 눕히면 음악을 멈춤.

▲ 세계유산 종묘를 주제로 하는 ‘드오’실에서는 종묘의 주인인 신주가 만들어지는 과정을 그림책으로 알아볼 수 있다. 종묘에 모셔진 국왕의 신주와 일반 사대부 신주, 공신당에 모셔진 배향공신의 신주, 현대 가정의 제사 때 모시는 지방을 통해 제례에서 조상과 만나는 매개가 되는 신주의 의미를 조명해 본다. 또한, 1395년부터 1991년에 이르기까지 종묘 정전과 영녕전의 변화과정과 숫자로 보는 정전 건축의 특징을 각각 무인 단말기(키오스크)와 영상으로 확인할 수 있고, 실제처럼 구현한 태조 신실 공간도 마련된다.

▲ 인류무형유산 종묘제례와 종묘제례악을 주제로 하는 ‘지오’실에서는, 조선시대 국왕이 직접 지내는 종묘제례 때 반차(班次)를 콜린 진 ‘레고’ 작가가 구현한 <레고 오향친제반차도>를 전시하였다. 왕과 왕세자, 제관들, 종묘제례악을 연행하는 악대와 무용수, 제례를 참관하는 문무관원 등 209명의 인물과 26종의 악기를 2만 개가 넘는 레고블록으로 생생하게 표현하였다. 또한, 종묘제례 절차에 따라 연주되는 종묘제례악을 전부 감상할 수도 있고, 조선 건국부터 오늘날까지 살아있는 전통으로 이어지고 있는 종묘제례와 종묘제례악 전승자들의 이야기도 인터뷰 영상을 통해 들어볼 수 있다.

종묘 향대청 전시관은 상설 운영된다. 종묘 시간제 관람 일정(평일) 중에는 해설사와 함께 1시간 동안 종묘 일원을 관람한 후 전시를 볼 수 있으며, 일반 관람 일정(주말, 공휴일, 문화가 있는 날) 중에는 해설 없이 자유롭게 관람할 수 있다. 오전 9시부터 종묘 관람 종료(2월~5월, 9월~10월 18:00 / 6월~8월 18:30 / 11월~1월 17:30) 30분 전까지 개관한다.

향대청 옆 망묘루는 국가유산청 출범을 맞아 5월 17일부터 6월 30일(매일 오전 10시부터 오후 4시)까지 관람객들에게 내부를 특별 개방한다. 이곳에서는 조선시대 종묘서(宗廟署)부터 오늘날의 궁능유적본부 종묘관리소에 이르기까지 종묘를 가꾸고 관리하는 유산관리자들의 이야기를 조명한다. 누마루에서는 신록을 맞은 연지(蓮池)와 종묘 전경을 조망하며 기념사진을 남길 수 있고, 종묘 정전 모형을 조립해 보는 체험 프로그램도 운영된다.

문화재청 궁능유적본부는 앞으로도 궁능유산을 활용한 새로운 전시와 활용 콘텐츠를 지속적으로 개발하여 국가유산의 가치를 확산해나가는 적극행정을 이어갈 예정이다.

The Royal Palaces and Tombs Center of the Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) and the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation (President, Choi Young-chang) celebrates, on May 17, the reopening of Jongmyo Hyangdaecheong exhibition hall following its renewal, also in line with the renaming of CHA to Korean Heritage Service (KHS). Mangmyoru, next to Hyangdaecheong, will also be open to the public to celebrate the occasion.

Jongmyo Hyangdaecheong is where the incense, written invocations, and ritual cloth of silk used during Jongmyo royal ancestral ritual are stored and also where officiants would be on stand-by during the royal ancestral ritual. Mangmyoru is the office space of Jongmyoseo(宗廟署), the official agency in charge of overall management of Jongmyo during Joseon Dynasty. On the day of the ancestral ritual, the king would wait here until the ritual begins and leave writings in memory of the ancestors, which later would be made into a plaque.

Jongmyo Hyangdaecheong exhibition hall has two chambers; ‘Deu-o’ and ‘Ji-o’.
* Deu-o/Ji-o: They are the call signs used during the music performance accompanying Jongmyo royal ancestral ritual to signal when the music should start and stop. The head musician would call out ‘Deu-o!’ to signal the raising of the flag and the start of playing the music. At the call of ‘Ji-o!’ the flag would be lowered and the music stops playing.

▲ ‘Deu-o’ chamber recreatesthe spirit chamber of King Taejoandintroduces the Jongmyo Shrine, UNESCO World Heritage. A storybook show how the spirit tablets, the masters of Jongmyo, are made. Different spirit tablets are also on display including that of the King enshrined at Jongmyo, venerated officials enshrined in Gongsindang, and of noblemen, as well as modern day spirit tables made with paper used in Korean families, to shed light on the meaning of the spirit tables as a channel to bring the ancestors closer to us. You can also see how Jeongjeon and Yeongnyeongjeon have changed from 1395 to 1991 using the touch screen kiosk, along with a video on Jeongjeon architecture in numbers.

▲ ‘Ji-o’ chamber focuses on Royal Ancestral Ritual in the Jongmyo Shrine and its Music, Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Jongmyo Royal Ancestral Ritual Layout, When Presided by the King, made with Lego created by Lego maker Colin Jin is on display. A colorful and vivid interpretation of the king, crown prince, officiants, musicians and dancers performing Jongmyo royal ancestral ritual and its music, as well as the royal officials participating in the state ceremony is presented in 209 figurines and 26 different types of musical instruments, using more than 20,000 Lego blocks. You can also enjoy the entire collection of the music and songs played during the ritual and hear the words of successors of Jongmyo royal ancestral ritual and its music, which continues to be celebrated as a living tradition.

Jongmyo Shrine, Jongmyo royal ancestral ritual and its music may come across as being difficult to understand and rather heavy. The exhibition in the Deu-o and Ji-o chambers invites the visitors to step closer to the meaning and value of the centuries-old tradition in a fun and friendly way.

Jongmyo Hyangdaecheong shows the permanent exhibition. On weekdays, the visitors can see the permanent exhibition after an hour-long guided tour of Jongmyo. On weekends, public holidays, and Culture Day (last Wednesday of every month), visitors can enjoy the permanent exhibition and Jongmyo without the guided tour. The permanent exhibitions will open until 30 minutes before Jongmyo closes at 18:00 (February to May, September, October), 18:30 (June to August) and at 17:30 (November to January) after opening daily at 09:00, except for Tuesdays.

Mangmyoru, next to Hyangdaecheong, is open to the public from May 17 to June 30, 10:00-16:00, in line with the renaming of the Cultural Heritage Administration to the Korea Heritage Service. Mangmyoru invites the visitors to listen to the stories of people who take care of Jongmyo, from past to present. At the piloti-like structure on one end of Mangmyoru, facing the pond, visitors can take pictures with Jongmyo and the pond in the background decorated with the lush green of the season. Visitors can also experience building Jeongjeon with a miniature model.

The Royal Palaces and Tombs Center of the Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) and the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation will continue to work together in presenting new exhibitions and contents with the royal palaces and tombs of Korea, to share their values with the general public.
