한국전통문화대, ‘K-Heritage Day’ 개최(5.2.)… 한국 유산 관련 강의와 ‘밤의 석조전’ 체험 등

  문화재청 한국전통문화대학교(총장 강경환)는 5월 2일 오후 4시 30분 덕수궁 돈덕전과 석조전(서울 중구)에서 주한 대사들을 대상으로 한국의 유산을 소개하는 ‘K-Heritage Day’를 개최한다.

한국전통문화대학교는 K-Pop, K-Culture를 비롯해 한국의 유산에 대한 국제사회의 관심이 높아짐에 따라 주한 외국인들을 위한 양질의 유산 교육 프로그램을 개발하고자 지난해 3월부터 교육과정 개발을 위한 연구를 시작으로 11월에는 각국의 주한 대사 등 15개국 46명을 대상으로 관련 특강과 설문조사를 실시했다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 올해 총 3개의 과정으로 이뤄진 ‘K-Heritage 비학위과정’을 개설했으며, 이번에 ‘2024 봄 궁중문화축전’(4.27.~5.5)과 연계하여 주한 대사들을 대상으로 한 ‘K-Heritage Day’를 시작으로 첫 선을 보이게 되었다.
* K-Heritage 비학위과정: 주한 대사 대상의 일일 문화행사인 ‘K-Heritage Day’, 주한 유학생 대상 계절학기 ‘K-Heritage Summer School’(7월 5일∼17일, 20명 대상, 신청공고 예정), 한국 유산과 교육에 관심 있는 글로벌 문화 리더들 대상의 ‘K-Heritage Leadership Program’(9월 28일∼11월 30일, 매주 토요일 총 10강 진행)

대한제국 외교의 중심 공간이었던 덕수궁 돈덕전에서 개최되는 이번 행사에는 9개국(그리스, 라오스, 멕시코, 사우디아라비아, 이탈리아, 잠비아, 캄보디아, 태국, 페루)의 대사와 배우자 등 14명이 참석하며, 강경환 한국전통문화대학교 총장의 환영사와 이배용 국가교육위원회 위원장의 축사, 박경립 한국전통문화대학교 석좌교수의 한국 유산 특강, 덕수궁을 탐방하며 대한제국 황실의 이야기를 알아보는 야간 프로그램 ‘밤의 석조전’ 체험 등의 순서로 진행된다.

문화재청 한국전통문화대학교는 앞으로도 외국인에게 한국의 유산을 체계적으로 알릴 수 있도록 독창적이면서도 지속가능한 미래 유산 교육 체계를 기획·운영해나갈 계획이다.

Established by the Cultural Heritage Administration, Korea National University of Cultural Heritage, under the leadership of President Kyung-Hwan Kang is set to host "K-Heritage Day" on May 2nd from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Dondeokjeon and Seokjojeon Halls in Deoksugung Palace, one of the five major palaces of the Joseon Dynasty. This event marks the first of three non-degree courses in the "K-Heritage Leadership Program", tailored for foreign ambassadors during the K-Royal Culture Festival.

Korea National University of Cultural Heritage, a specialized institution focusing on heritage studies, has developed these educational programs targeting foreigners residing in Korea, who often have limited opportunities to systematically learn and experience Korean heritage. Initiated with a pilot lecture on November 1, 2023, which was attended by 46 individuals from 15 countries including ambassadors and delegates from embassies in Korea, featuring special lectures on Korean heritage and conducting surveys. In 2024, based on the research and outcomes of last year's efforts, the university introduced a structured three-course non-degree program in K-Heritage, with "K-Heritage Day" being the first and specifically designed for ambassadors in Korea.

The event is expected to be attended by 9 ambassadors and their spouses. It will commence with opening remarks by President Kang and a congratulatory speech by Bae-Yong Lee, chairperson of the National Education Commission. This will be followed by a keynote lecture by Chair Professor Kyung Rip Park, titled "A Glance at History, Culture, and K-Heritage” linked with a program “Seokjojeon Night” on the narratives of the Daehan Empire's royal family as part of the K-Royal Culture Festival.

This session, held at Dondeokjeon Hall—a site historically used for diplomatic meetings and banquets as the Daehan Empire strove to modernize—aims to inform the ambassadors about Korean heritage and history, aligning with the site’s historical significance and the program's objectives. An official from the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage noted that the program was developed in response to growing international interest in K-pop and K-culture, and the need for systematic, high-quality, and sustainable heritage education targeted at foreigners. The support and collaboration of the international ambassadors and Korean governmental bodies are crucial for designing a unique and sustainable future heritage education system globally, as emphasized by Chairperson Bae-Yong Lee’s participant, who will be present to endorse the start of the K-Heritage non-degree course.

Ambassadors from Cambodia, Greece, Italy, Laos, Mexico, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Zambia, along with their spouses, are slated to attend this prestigious event.

The K-Heritage non-degree program comprises three tailored courses: 1) "K-Heritage Day,” a one-day cultural event for ambassadors; 2) "K-Heritage Summer School,” a three-week term for international students; 3) and the "K-Heritage Leadership Program,” designed for global cultural leaders interested in Korean heritage and education.
