국립문화재연구원-국립중앙과학관-제주세계유산본부 공동 / 12.1.~ 제주세계자연유산센터

  문화재청 국립문화재연구원(원장 김연수)은 과학기술정보통신부 국립중앙과학관(관장 이석래), 제주특별자치도 세계유산본부(본부장 변덕승)와 함께 12월 1일부터 2023년 1월 31일까지 2개월간 천혜의 아름다움을 자랑하는 제주 서귀포 지역의 자연을 주제로 한 공동 특별전시회 「제주의 자연, 세계의 유산이 되다.」를 개최한다.

  이번 전시는 국립문화재연구원, 한국동굴생물연구소 등 민·관 12개 기관이 지난 2019년도부터 올해까지 제주 서귀포 성산일출봉 천연보호구역과 천연기념물인 평대리 비자나무숲, 천지연과 천제연폭포, 안덕계곡, 그리고 명승인 산방산, 정방폭포 등 제주 곳곳에서 다양한 생물분류군을 조사한 연구성과를 대중에게 공개하는 자리이다. ▲ 조류(천연기념물 흑비둘기, 흑두루미, 독수리 등) ▲ 포유류(노루, 족제비 등) ▲ 곤충(제주풍뎅이, 한라산누에나방 등) ▲ 식물(지네발난, 탐라산수국 등) 등 300여점의 다양한 표본과 현장조사 사진 및 영상이 전시될 예정이다.

  다양한 연구성과 중 그동안 천지연·천제연폭포에서만 서식하는 것으로 알려져 있던 무태장어가 명승인 정방폭포에서도 서식하는 것을 처음으로 확인한 것이 주목할 만하다.
문화재청 국립문화재연구원은 이번 특별전시회 개최를 통해 자연유산 자원의 새로운 가치 창출과 함께 우리 자연유산의 소중함에 대해 국민들의 인식이 확산되기를 기대하며, 앞으로도 자연유산 및 자연사 자원의 가치발굴과 보존관리 방안 마련을 위해 민·관 공동연구를 지속적으로 추진해 나갈 예정이다.

  National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage of Cultural Heritage Administration (Kim Yeon soo, General Director) is holding a joint special exhibition titled ‘Nature of Jeju, becoming a World Heritage’ on the theme of the nature of Seogwipo, which is blessed with natural beauty with National Science Museum of the Ministry of Science and ICT and World Heritage Office of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.

  This exhibition is a meaningful to disclose to the public the research results of 12 private and public institutions, including National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Korea Institute of Environmental Ecology, which have investigated various taxa in Jeju since 2019, including Natural Reserve, Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone Natural Reserve in Seogwipo, natural monuments such as Forest of Japanese Torreyas in Pyeongdae-ri, Cheonjiyeon Falls, Cheonjeyeon Falls, Andeokgyegok Valley and scenic site such as Sanbangsan Mountain , Jeongbangpokpo Falls etc.

  Special exhibition will introduce Jeju's natural heritage resources, and about 300 specimens of ▲birds (Natural monument Black Wood Pigeon, Hooded Crane, Cinereous Vulture, etc.), ▲mammals (Roe deer, Siberian weasel, etc.), ▲insects (Common grass yellow, Lady bugs, etc.) and ▲plants (Centipede's foot orchid, Sasa quelpaertensis, etc.), as well as photos and videos from field investigations, will be displayed. The exhibits are the result of efficient research through participation and collaboration under a business cooperation agreement between institutions for the systematic excavation and securing of natural heritage. In addition, through this study, for the first time, it was confirmed that Giant mottled eel, which was known to live only in Cheonjiyeon Falls and Cheonjeyeon Falls, which are natural monuments, also lives in scenic spot, Jeongbangpokpo Falls.

  We hope that the hosting of this special exhibition will create new values of natural heritage resources and spread the public's awareness of the importance of our natural heritage. National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage will continue to promote public-private joint research to discover the value of natural heritage and natural history resources and prepare conservation management plans by further strengthening cooperation between institutions.
